Mine Museum Beringen
Immerse yourself in the mining past of Belgian Limburg. Open every day from 10:00 to 17:00, the museum combines a modern exhibition hall including underground simulation with authentic historic mine buildings. Special packages for individual visitors, families, groups and schools enable everyone to learn more about coal, mining, the work in and around the underground and the turbulent past, in a unique way. The Beringen mining site covers 100,000m² of preserved buildings. This makes it the largest industrial heritage site in Flanders and unique in Europe. Compared to other mining sites in Limburg it is the only site where the industrial heart of the mine was kept intact. Under the be-MINE programme, the site is being redeveloped as a tourist and recreation project. Urban functions like living, working and shopping are interwoven in a balanced manner, providing a dignified, valuable and contemporary interpretation of this historic building.
